The main reason behind a failure of any
business is incompetence. Without a good knowledge of your business your
success will depend on luck and most likely you will fail. Therefore before
attempting to trade index futures you
should acquire as much knowledge about the subject as possible. If you are new to
trading I suggest that you start your education with a simple and
inexpensive book for the beginners that should give you an idea if the
business is suitable for you. Only then you should read some more advanced
books. Your learning topics should cover technical analysis, various trading
methods and systems, risk management, psychology and discipline as well as
general knowledge about stock and commodity exchanges, financial products offered for trading,
methods of trading and types of
orders used in trading. You have to learn as much as possible even before you attempt
testing your business plan (also known as paper trading). Books are the best and the least
expensive sources of information. Other sources of information can be more
expensive but also very useful. Courses are for those who prefer to learn in a short time a
specific trading approach from a mentor but usually they promote trading
methods and styles of their authors that may be not suitable for you. Some
people prefer to learn from videos where they can watch their tutors, other
would rather attend seminars where they can ask specific questions and get some
"hands on" experience. Whatever you choose as your source of information remember, do yourself a
favor and do not start trading
before acquiring necessary knowledge.
